Quemquemtreu Lodge
The ranch

Once the largest Ranch in all of Patagonia, this 160 thousand acre ranch still remains one of the largest in the area. Quemquemtreu, famous for raising polo ponies, is located 60 miles east of San Martin de los Andes, hosts 10 guests in 5 double bedrooms and has 23 miles of the Collon Cura River flowing through it. The Collon Cura is a large size river where 3 full day float trips are available for our clients. Famous for its minnow hatches in the middle of the Argentine summer, this river provides some of the best streamer fishing in the world!

Equipment

The main rod to use in this river is a 9 foot 6wt. Since we fish a lot of streamers, we suggest you bring an array of sinking tip fly lines, with a 200 grain sinking tip fly line being the most popular line used. We also suggest you bring a 9 foot 5wt. to toss some large dry flies. The most popular flies on the Collon Cura are: large dry flies such as Chernobyl Ants, Hoppers, and any large attractor pattern. In terms of streamers, rubber legged Wooly Buggers are very effective as well as any minnow pattern such as Matukas or Double Bunnies.
